For my multimodal project, I chose to hand make a timeline collage depicting different events in Chris’s life that I thought played a role in why he went to Alaska, as well as important people that he encountered on his journey to Alaska. I included the events of his and his sister, Carine’s birth all the way to the time of his death. His youth and events before he went to college took special prominence in the timeline because I believe that this was the most important time in his life that led up to him wanting to leave his family and his life around them because of the abuse that they put him and his sister through.
I chose to do a timeline, words and pictures, because I felt that describing the events and different areas in Chris’s life would best explain my topic; why Chris actually disappeared without a trace and left to live in Alaska for the remainder of his life. I chose to do it in the effect of Chris climbing a mountain throughout his life, so with each date I include in the timeline, he is higher and higher in the mountain; his birth and childhood being the lowest point in his life (the mountain), and his death being the highest point in the mountain, which I believe may have been the happiest he had ever been. I used pictures from different times in his life and matched them up with the times in his life.
My project uses pathos and logos, but especially pathos. It uses logos because I am using real and documented times in Chris’s life, making my project more credible. But my project mainly uses pathos; it uses pathos because I used different periods in his life when he was either struggling with domestic abuse in his family, or when he was meeting and spending time with important people during his journey, like Jan or Ron. These were very important and emotional times in Chris’s life. The time he spent with his family was important because there was constant abuse, and I believe that these were the times in his life that caused him to never speak to them again, and disappear into Alaska. The times that Chris spent with Jan and Ron were important because I believe those people taught him that you can have people close to you, you can have people to care for you and love you and they won’t hurt you. Jan gave him a place to live as well as a motherly figure to look up to. Ron did the same thing, gave him a place to live and a loving figure to look to. My project shows people the ups and downs that Chris had with human relationships and what he ultimately learned at the time of his death; a very emotional lesson in his life.
This is my multimodal project. I did a timeline of Chris's life and events during his journey that I thought were important to my topic. I included pictures for each point in his life. I really enjoyed doing this because I LOVE visuals. I like to make things colorful and include lots of pictures. I'm not the most artistic person, but I definitely like to do things like this!
